so i went to the convention this weekend. the co-op convention. either i'm over it, or it wasn't as good as years past. i ditched the second day halfway through because i just hadn't seen isaijah in too too long. i know how to serve my child better, thanks, and it's to BE with him. but i did see a couple of good people that made it worth it.
ruth beaglehole is someone i've been wanting to see for a long time. she has a center for nonviolent parenting in echo park, and does nonviolent parenting classes in spanish and english every weekend, and they are cheap/free. she was awesome, she's written a book about teen mothering, done a lot of work with teen moms in LA, and surprised me with the statistic that 80% of preschoolers are spanked 3 times a month or more. anyway, she was really great and talked about being a giraffe rather than a jackyll (she's from new zealand). giraffes have a 26 pound heart and are giving and listeners. jackylls put out ultimatums, bark orders, and are into obedience. children are not served by obedience. children's behaviors and motives are so pure, everything they do is to serve a need that they have. anyway she gave a lot of good ideas about talking, reasoning, and negotiating.
the other good person i saw was linda koopersmith, th e"beverly hills organizer". she was the best speaker, and soooo LA with her white pantsuit and pointy pink heels and sparkly pink tank. anyway she gave a lot of good ideas about organizing your house and especially paper. and she has a show on the style network called "clean house" and she's good.
yup, so that's that.
tonght is the silent auction, and then the Week of Overscheduling shall be over, thank god. just in time to go back to work.
