where the wind comes sweepin down the plain.
talked to the silver sweetheart- the potluck is on the 29th! w00t! potluck feat. Jfam4, alright. i'm so blessed to have friends like family.
and my great aunt ("aunt ginna") fell down stairs and broke her hip. insert super sad and concerned face here. my mom called me at work and i immediately knew something was up. suck. she is such a strong woman!!! in her little town she owns or used to own: the car wash (there's only one), the bearcat burger (a burger joint), the dixie beauty salon, and the downtown diner. that's half the damn town, population 2,552. 2500 people. that's like, my high school. anyway, she was a widow pretty young when "unkie" died, and she amassed all these resources pretty much on her own, while raising her two kids. she has always been a shrewd and smart business woman. aunt ginna is like a sister to my grandmother because she married my grandmother's brother (unkie- whose real name was merle lee. i'm pretty sure he was called unkie because he was my mom's uncle) and after he died, the two women were always close. i would see her often when i spent time in the small town as a child with my mema. i would sometimes spend the night at aunt ginna's and for this i was always glad. we would collect quarters from the car wash or go to the bank or run to do an errand for the beauty shop, and then we would go back to her house: which i loved. it's a FABULOUS house (that i'm sure could use some work now, but it was always grand to me then). it was two stories and up on a hill, with a loop driveway. red carpeted back stairs and an accordian door on the smallest bathroom (with a bathtub on feet) and mint green carpeting on the main stairs and a piano and a pool table room and a beautiful back porch. we would go up together in the dark and i would sleep in her bed in her room. she always slept with the police scanner on and i always had insomnia. i remember laying awake on a hot and sultry summer night and listening to the scanner and gazing out the window and listening to aunt ginna snore. she was always so excited to see me and my mom, and she was always so much FUN. i'm so glad i got to see her when the nugget was about 1. we saw her and her two sisters hazel and nadine. it was fabulous.
i hope she feels better and is not in too much pain. she's i think about eighty years old. i just can't believe it.
i'm getting tired.
there's a lot going on right now in my life and i can't write about it. it's just not coming. i'm feeling inhibited.
